First of all, the name is spelled Ouija. It is so named from the combining of the French and German words for "yes"..."oui" (pronounced "wee") and "ja" (phoenetic) respectively.

Do they work...? The short answer is: no.

This is the long answer.

The Ouija board does work, but not at contacting spirits. I'd be willing to bet that 99.99% of all Ouija boards in the U.S. have "Parker Bros." printed somewhere on them, meaning that they are no better and contacting spirits than a game of Monopoly. It works through something called the ideomotor effect. Basically, you are moving the planchette without realising it. Sometimes ideas from your subconscious will come through and appear to make intelligible words and phrases, but the fact remains that you ARE moving it, whether you are trying to or not...in fact the more you concentrate at not moving it, the more likely it is to move.

I once saw an informal experiment performed in which four people were trying to contact a spirit using a Ouija board. After asking it some basic questions, and getting responses for all of them, they were asked to do it blindfolded. They again asked it some basic "yes" or "no" type questions and received responses. After this, the board was reversed without the blindfolded participants' knowledge. They then moved the planchette to the area that they thought the yes or no were, when they were actually on the opposite end of the board.

For the record, I used to be a hardcore believer in the Ouija board.

Well, first off...it's Ouija...pronounced "Wee-ja".

This will remain open for debate. Some people swear by them, others say it's only a game. But is it?

Having played with one a time or two, I sort of believe that you can open a "portal" (for lack of a better word) to another dimension, so to speak. From what I've studied about the boards, each one seems to be linked to a certain individual. I don't know what the connection is.

The last time I used one (in high school at a party), none of us using it (there were four of us) actually had our fingers touching the planchette firmly enough to cause movement. The board did answer some basic questions but it would not tell us it's name or how old it was. Strange. It DID tell the board leader to be "carfull". That made sense...to be "careful" because the boards are said to be crappy spellers. Weird...but it seems to be true.

So...form your own opinion. If you decide to play with one sometime and it scares the crap out of you, that may be the last time you ever want to even look at one. I think it depends on your personal beliefs...whether you believe in ghosts, a spirit world and so forth.

It's been 20 years since I've played with one and I have no desire to ever touch one again. Honestly, I think a person playing with one is opening themselves up to God only knows what...maybe something good...maybe something harmful. I don't care to find out.

Using it opens doors in the spirit world to communicate with evil spirits & the devil himself, why on earth would anyone want to do that for? Is THAT what you want to know is true or not, if Ouija boards are true, YES!

If you've got a question, just post it, ask your friends or talk to God about it, but please stay away from it!!

what happens is because the nerves of the people tend to get hyped up because they feel scared if calling a spirit and so it makes the weeji come alive with the senses of all those playing...
and it's the same with questions..but then the players are not nervous but hyped up in exciting because they want to know a particular question. Whether a guy likes them, what's his name, or what letter does his name start with..

i could stay remote from Ouija boards. As a baby, i did no longer comprehend that undesirable spirits ought to come from them. i will't pass into info, yet an extremely frightening adventure got here approximately. for my area, you're inviting undesirable spirits in by potential of twiddling with it. i comprehend this sounds over the suitable and loopy. yet, i could thoroughly avert the "activity".

It gives me the creeps, but fun to use with friends. I don't think its true, but similiar divination tools were popular back in the 1920s. I think the Great Depression was back in the 20s so maybe it would account for its popularity as people were seeking hope in fortune telling.

Ummm, well they all have "made in china" printed on them somewhere or another.

Do you then logically deduce they are made under secret volcanic demon caverns? Or in a modern chinese factory, using low skilled labor and mass production.

When you realize that it is the latter, then you sorta lose respect for the game.

I think it feeds off the subconscious minds of the participants and any correlation in fact is purely coincidental.
