Route from airport to hotel - Tropicana to LV Blvd S to Luxor
Tips - Cab 15%-20%
Bellboy - $1-$2 per bag
You buy the $5 - 24 hour Deuce pass from the driver when you board. You can then take any bus, anywhere in the valley.
I prefer the Pyramid rooms even though the are slightly smaller, what the heck, how often do you get to stay in the worlds largest Pyramid. Besides, the best views of the strip are from the upper floors in the Pyramid. Ask for a room on an upper floor that faces North, if you want the strip view.
No microwave, it will cost you much less to buy your bottled water in the gift shop, ice machines are down the hall.
The Luxor is a very cool hotel, very nice pool area, food court on the second floor for a quick bite, you're going to have a ball.
Later: "The bus will cost you a fortune in time" >If you did decide to take the bus, you would more than likely be checking into your hotel while the guy taking the taxi will still be waiting in the taxi line at the airport<

Take a cab if you want to save time. The fair to the Luxor shouldn't be over 15 dollars. If the cabbie gets you there quickly, I would tip 20-25 percent. It will cost you a fortune in time if you take the bus. You will spend hours getting from one end of the strip to the other. Call the hotel to inquire about shuttles, room amenities etc. Check out the monorail behind the MGM. It goes all the way up to the Sahara and is fast. We stayed at Luxor several years ago. Nothing to rave about. The bed was not comfortable. The grounds and lobby are very attractive. We had fun in the casino. It has a good location. We had no microwave or bottled water. Some of upgraded rooms might have more amenities.

You want a tower east or west. If you stay in the pyramid, it will take forever to go from the front desk to the room. Luxor is so close that a cab would be cheap. However, I would choose a shuttle. They are no more than $12 round trip per person. This is cheep and will not take much time because it is so close to the airport.
You sign up for the shuttle just outside the baggage claim.

Call 800-288-1000 to speak with a reservation clerk.
I don't think we have a complimentary shuttle because cabs line up outside.
There is the Tram that runs outside for $5 and there are buses that run down the strip. The tram would probably be quicker.
It's hot during the day right now, but if you used a parasol you should be able to tolerate the heat. Or, it may that I am just used to the heat.

The tunnel is faster, but longer. Hence the reason why people say avoid it.
That being said, for south strip the tunnel is faster. However you want to Avoid I-15
Take the tunnel to LV Blvd and exit.
I have also stayed in the Luxor, nice place. I actually liked the Pyrmaid rooms.

avoid the tunnel? it cold be a little confusing (two exchanges) but its usually pretty speedy. if you dont want to take that just follow the exit from the airport to tropicana, and head for the big shiny flashey strip. you're best bet would be to just map it out at http://maps.google.com
as for the luxor... im still a little too creeped out by recent events. I don't think i could stay there... yeah i know. it could've happened anywhere.. but still - too creepy.

I did - hated it - stay out of the pyramid -mthe rooms are a weird shape & give you a funny feeling - I'm not kidding. Get a room in the Tower - you'll sleep better.
