I would join as many as you can handle without completely stressing out. (I'm trying to get into an Ivy League as well)

Currently, I'm in Student Council, SADD, Honor Society, Quiz Bowl, Spanish Club, I'm Sophomore Class Vice-President, Science Compition(Olympiad), Thespian Society, and I was accepted into "Who's Who Among American High School Students."..I think that's it...I usually forget one or two when I'm listing them though..

It's not how many clubs you join but what makes you a "rounded" person and what you give to your community. I would join those clubs that interest you, play some type of sport, and volunteer somewhere. Don't forget to enjoy yourself. Try to do those things that show you have leadership qualities, the ability to solve problems, and that you are willing to give to someone else. Sports teach you to perform in team situations as well as giving you confidence in yourself. Most clubs will teach you specific things and you may want to consider being an officer. Most non profit organizations are looking for help. You could just help when then have a fundraiser and need more hands. Check out your newspaper and all those organizations will be there. I volunteer for a local SPCA and we are always looking for someone to help us. The most important thing of all is your grades. You must do the work and take the time to get those A's. Best thing to know-sit in front and be prepared. When the teacher asks a question and no one answers raise your hand and volunteer. And last, when you walk in the room say Good Morning Mrs. So and So. They will have to know your name and will think positively about you. These things ALWAYS work.

It's not how many clubs you join it's how involved you are with them. Try to get involved with no more than 3 (clubs and/or sports) throughout your high school career and try to be officers in at least one of the clubs in your junior and senior years of high school. Try also to be a part of at least one big club project in one of your clubs each year of high school. That shows dedication and commitment. Plus you will learn so much more being an officer than you will just coming to meetings once a week/ or month.

My Clubs in High School:
Girl Scouts - 13 years (every year of school), 6 years as an officer, 4 years as president
French Club & Honor Society- 4 years, they met together and were really like one club
National Honor Society - 3 years

Clubs in College (yes join clubs in college! They are great for resumes):
Alpha Phi Omega - 3 years (transfered), 4 semesters (2 years)as an officer, 1 semester as President
Society of Collegiate Scholars- 2.5 years, but they did nothing at all.
Golden Key Society - 2 years, I didn't have time for the meetings, so this was just a resume filler

Do clubs that will not take away too much time from your academic studying, but will make you involved.

Some good clubs could include:
1. Tutoring (an underclassman or somebody in middle/elementary school)
2. Key Club (if your school has one. It can get you volunteer hours too, which also look good)
3. Sports (Varsity looks the best - I know one girl who got a full scholarship into Notre Dame to swim because her swimming skills were almost future olympian-like, so sports can matter a lot).

Join as many clubs as your heart desires. I use to be in 3 clubs but now I'm in one and I love it.
