The conviction will most likely be overlooked, but the fact that you lied on your application can get you rejected, or end up screwing you later.
You can be terminated or lose benefits for lying on an application. It is better to disclose something so insignificant.
You may want to have it expunged. For a small fee, the court will dismiss an old charge as long as you've completed probation and/or kept a clean record since then. When expunged, you dont need to disclose it it most cases.

It would have been better to be honest about it. Most companies would not harshly judge a shoplifting conviction from 15 years ago but lying about it makes you look bad. Did you plead guilty to a felony? if so what in god's name did you steal that would monetarily be worth a felony conviction?

No. it shouldn't. that "crime" is too old. MOst companies only want what you did not more than 5 years ago. You didn't hae to volunteer that btw.
