It seems that if you have the money you can pollute all you want to as long as you pay for "carbon offsets". In Al Gore's case from Generation Investment Management a company he helped found. He won't even take the pledge he askes everyone else to take. What you think? I'm not looking for a debate on whether or not "global warming" is real or not or man made or not. Thanks.

It's like prom night with the guy trying to talk the girl out of her clothes. That's what Al Gore and the hand wringing global warming crowd are doing. Their trying to guilt you heavily into willfully handing over your money to "save the planet". He's been saying we only have ten years left for the past 20 years! All of the people that are pushing this agenda live such bloated lifestyles it's ridiculous! Common sense tells us that if ALGORE really believed his own hysterical warnings, he'd hahve abandoned camp to go live in the mountains in a cabin somewhere. How frightened can he really be? As you so adeptly pointed out, he won't even take his own pledge! Notice how we didn't hear about that in any of the mainstream media? The only place we heard about it was on conservative blogs and on Rush. Can you say "agenda driven"?

I sort of think of carbon offsetting like a credit card. You can go pollute something then plant a tree. As long as you keep the tree healthy and growing you'll have paid back what you owe.

Certainly if everyone offset their carbon then the system would probably work. But that's not going to happen, because people in the 3rd world are still supporting our industrial revolution and planting trees and keeping them watered isn't economical.

Carbon offsets are a practical and entirely lawful way for companies to manage their businesses. Without carbon offsets, for example, we might just as well shut down every fossil-fueled powerhouse in the nation. It's just not practical to do that, unless you'd like to turn out all the lights in America and go hug a tree.

Here's something that you might not remember -- ration stamps during WW2. If you had a car, and many didn't, you needed gasoline stamps, and you probably needed more than Uncle Sam allotted you, because you had to provide transportation for "Rosie the Riveter" so she could get to work and make Jeeps or landing craft. So how did you get more gasoline stamps? You bartered other types of ration stamps for gasoline stamps. Maybe you swapped off your meat stamps so you could operate your car, and Rosie needed meat to keep her energy up. Fair enough?

I do believe that we have affected the climate to a degree.

For instance I use to live in Northern Lower Michigan, in a snow belt. We got 200 feet of snow yearly in the 1980's. My kids use to go out on the roof over my bedroom closet and jump off into the snow. Now at the same location, my daughter still lives there, the now fall isn't even half that amount. So something has changed in the last 20 years.

The neighbor across the street remembers the snow drifts being as high as the telephone lines. Not now.

I do not believe this "Carbon Offset" theory is a viable business, and is wide open for out and out fraud.

Al Gore is a hypocrite with a Savior Complex. But what do you expect from a politician?
The sad truth is that the people who seek power are usually the very ones who should not be in charge.
We need to start electing the Citizen Legislator who does not become a career politician, not someone who thinks we are in danger of being killed by man-bear-pig.

A rainbow after a storm ... reminding you of God´s mercy. The smell of rain on a dry ground ... magically refreshing. Spring ... showing its colors and sounds everywhere. A long, tight and loving hug ... specially when you´re feeling lonely. A smile ... even more, a smile from a sweet child ... and you forcing a smile also helps you to come out of your shell or abyss, when you´re down there. Kind words, compliments ... they will lift you up and make your day! Saying or hearing " I love you", still works wonders too. A juicy kiss ... can light up your fire. Life ... it´s just magical!!!

As long as we're doing the "blame game" here, let me show you where the blame should go.

The dawn of the Industrial Revolution gave us many modern conveniences. They are now coming home to roost.

Use of fossil fuel is the common denominator. Fossil fuel is not going to last forever, and it has serious consequences for both planet earth and for the turmoil in certain parts of the world.

At this junction it is imperative that everyone adopt different living means with a focus on alternative forms of energy.

The biggest polluters are some of the biggest corporations.

They need to be fined severely when caught.

So far, they get off with small fines...and a perfect example of this is the corporation Exxon Mobil.

Their Exxon Valdez caused havoc in Alaska in 1989. They were fined a few billion dollars. Today, they generate over forty billion dollars a year in profit.

They should be looked at to blaze a new trail, and forget about small players who may or may not pollute some.

Get to the fat cats first!

(You get to them by everyone writing to their Congressmen).

What a joke. Just a way for jerks like Al Gore to rationalize their use of jets and 20,000 square foot mansions.

You don't have to be rich to get carbon offsets.

You can just go to freecarbonoffsets.com.
