I just put out lots of vegetables yesterday - tomatoes, melons and peppers.

They transplated just fine, I watered them and now 2 days later I'm finding everything has been "snipped off" down to the stem! This happened to the tomatoes and peppers. Only a tiny green stem left, no upper stems or leaves. The melons disappeared altogether - the entire bedding plant!

What is going on?? I put down small animal repellent so is this a voracious garden bug?

I need an experienced gardeners advice and opinion so that $200 dollars I just spent is not wasted....thanks.

it's rabbits or even deer! put up four posts (can be sturdy but small tree branches) on all four corners of ur garden and tie fishing line around all the posts! u can put more then one one line too, one on top and one in the middle of the branches! this will solve the deer problem. as for the rabbits, go to ur nearest walmart or whatever u have and buy those "owls" with the rotating heads, put them or it on a stake about three to four feet high and this should cut down on ur rabbit problem! i know ur thinking "fishing line," but it's true cuz deer will bump up against it and it will detour them to a new area. i do it and never have a problem! good luck. also try some sort of bug-b-gone or other product for insects! only use once or twice and make sure u don't harvest for at least 6 weeks or so after it's applied!

Rabbits or deer...

Although slugs and snails can do an amazing amount of damage. If you have loose boards, compost pile or other places that moist slimy creatures like, you just may have a lot of these pests...

Do you suspect its a rabbit? or small animal?

I remember, SLUGS as my last problem.
I first thought it was a rabbit. And might have been time to time. But, my DUTCH neighbor said, it might very well be slugs! so you can use slug bait, or ashes from a fire to repell these damn PESKY SLUGS!

good luck
