I don't think so--just severely depressed by his partner's abandonment. But the family's antics/activities got him out of his preoccupation and seeing that prick w/his new partner may have let the lid off of some of his anger--giving him more energy available to concentrate on other people and to join his family in helping Olive. Suicide is often internalized anger. Manic depression is cyclic...sometimes in six-month cycles of incapacitating depression leading to increased activity to manic activity with very little sleep. ...Individual, of course. And it is genetic rather than "caused" by life's "betrayal".
