well, maby you could get a few pics of her, in important times in her life, like marrage, pregnancy, or other important things, and make a colage

Here's something creative that will be appreciated and you will have fun doing:
Make up a crossword puzzle and have all the hints be personal inside moments and jokes that only you two would know about. Put it on a poster board and add some clipart and some pictures to it!
The crossword puzzle could be time consuming and a bit frustrating ... you could do the same idea with a WORDSEARCH or WORDFIND puzzle.
Put your computer skills to work! Use Excel, get clipart from Yahoo Images Search, copy them, and reformat them, use a gluestick to put on posterboard.
Use graph paper, and pictures from magazines if you are not as good on the computer, and it will give it a homemade feeling.

I don't know what age you are and this might sound a bit cheap an' cheesey, but why don't you make her a set of 10 IOUs for tasks or activities that you can both share and enjoy. These don't have to be grand or expensive things, just little things that show you care (she's probably been doing them for you for years).
example:
1. Breakfast in bed
2. Washing up for a week
3. Organise a day out at beach/picnic/walking
4. Help with the Spring cleaning
5. Arrange a real bubblebath
6. Clean the garage
You know what she'd like, this shows that you have applied some thought, and this really is a time when the thought counts.
The only rule is that whatever you do has to make your Mom happy, it's her day after all.

I gave this answer to someone else the other day. Make a coupon book. Make coupons that she can redeem with you anytime. Examples: 1 Free car wash, 1 free manicure, 1 free laundry day. Choose things that your mom usually has to do that would help her out a lot. Also, make a scrap book. Use pics of you and her and tell a little story about each pic. Another idea, make her breakfast in bed.

It depends how old you are. If you make her a picture and you are 15, it won't be cute. Make her something she can use.
