Because he was told 2 of every creature...I'm thinking, you don't want to mess with the dude who makes it FLOOD.

if he had we would not have had half of the other animals
they once sprayed for mosqiutos on the banks of the danube and all of the life in the woods disapeared,
the mosquitos were food for a whole range of animals ,and they in turn were food for a lot of other ones,
just because we dont always see the importance of components in the food chain does not mean that they dont have a function.
