Is Vista Microsoft's "Edsel"? Does anyone NOT think it's a piece of crap?

I have Vista so I guess I'll have to take the cockroaches.

Seriously: We bought two new Acer laptops preloaded with Vista Pro. We were running XP on HPs before this. The first hit was having to buy all the new software. While some of it wasn't required, we wanted to be current. What a huge expense. The software cost was more than the computers.

I still am not uber-happy with all the security accept/deny crud whenever you run something new.

Also, it seems as though some applications run really slow. Like Outlook mail startup and saving a complex Excel spreadsheet.

While a task wont lock your computer (like outlook send/receive), it might be slow to open an explorer window. Vista gives the illusion of multitasking (e.g., they took away the hourglass). However multitasking response is worse with Vista than with XP.

If I had to do it over again, I would've bought laptops with XP on them. I was drawn in by the glamor of the 3d window switching :) Which has stopped now btw. If you have software that requires a different display setting the 3d flip is disabled. :(

I would go for the cockroaches. I do think that Vista is piece of crap. I hear from a lot of people that hardware doesn't work, software doesn't work because of driver incompatibility.

Windows Vista is just an operating system. Its not going to kill you. You choose what you want.

I'm running Windows Vista on my HP Pavilion 725n and did not upgrade anything for my computer and its running fine. I bought my computer in 2003. Can you believe that?

I agree, Vista is terrible. I truly believe this is the official birth of APPLE. With the Zune's failure, and Apple releasing the iPhone, and higher capacity iPod's, Microsoft has nothing on them. XP was O.K., but Vista will be Microsuck's final demise.

Jesus, what a no brainer - The cockroaches.

Vista is the worst consumer product ever forced down peoples throats that they actually had to pay for to get.

your obviously a mac user. if you're using windows, you may have very crappy computer. windows vista's the best. i mean, if you look an hp touchsmart, which is a lot faster, cheaper and better specs than a $2500 mac.
