God created a perfect world. God then gave that perfect world over to Adam and Eve for caretaking. They sinned against God, losing the gift of a perfect world and everlasting life. In Jesus, God gave back the world to men (from Satan), but we each individually have to do that, however, God did not give us back a perfect world, because it was already corrupt, he gave us the power to endure, and the promise of eternal life in another perfect world beyond this one.

Because we now live in a fallen world, there is disease, disabilities, accidents, injuries, corruption, and all the other bad stuff. God did not give it to us! Our ancient ancestors started the ball rolling. God is a God of love, but he handed over the world, and is not going to just grab it back ... so we have a corrupt and fallen imperfect world, but through his son and Holy Spirit, the power to live in it, even though it is not easy much of the time.

I kinda like the answer for the first person, but there have been disabilities even before we messed up the environment.

If you take out environmental ones a lot of the disabilities you can think of don't interfere with the person's happiness, and remind us of how perfect we are all made. It also gives us an opportunity to serve each other.

This question is one of some that require the old dogma: I will never understand Gods scheme, all I can do is marvel in it's beauty, and help relieve any suffering. I also need to clean up and manage messes made by ignorant people.

Its not God that creates the disability. It depends on the mother if there is a disability or not. Drinking alcohol, smoking, taking drugs can all cause disabilities while pregnant. Or sometimes the umbilocal cord can get wrapped around the babies neck and cause the baby not to get enough oxygen. That can cause a disability also.

Personally, I think it's people who created disabilities. We as a world have decided what's normal and what's abnormal based on what is naturally there in the person's genetic makeup. In essence, god create those people but god wanted everyone to be different. However, god in my opinion does not have categories for people, places, and things, just how things are.

Disabilities are simply part of the human condition. No more, no less. Life is full of frailties. Many people are born with disabilities, other acquire them through accidents, illnesses, etc.

I do believe that there is a higher power than man. God is a convenient name. But I will never believe that God selected my third child, my son, to be disabled. I will never believe that God selected my first child to be stillborn. If I truly thought that God reached out and killed my child during labor in order to 'teach' me and others, and then later 'caused' my son to be born with Down Syndrome, then I can honestly say I would never believe in anything ever again.

We do not like to accept the randomness of life. If things can just 'happen' to people, through no fault of their own, then that means bad thing can happen to us. When we attribute occurrences such as birth defects, accidents, weather-related tragedies, etc, to the will of God, then what we are doing is protecting ourselves emotionally. Life is no longer random, all things happen for a reason. And we rationalize to ourselves that if we do certain things, live a certain way, say certain prayers, then WE will be safe. But it isn't true. Good, godly people suffer horribly, as do atheists.

I don't believe that the disabled are here to guide us, teach us, enlighten us. And as the parent of a child with a disability I think I have a firm basis for my opinion. Is my son an awesome kid? Of course he is. Are people drawn to him and does he help bridge the gap that exists for some people when it comes to being comfortable around the disabled? Yes, he does. But was he 'created' for that purpose? Oh, please.

Many babies born with disabilities have them because of some mix-up in the genes or a lack of something in the mother. Many women don't eat all that healthy, my niece being one of them, so her son was born with Spina Bifuda. Spina Bifuda is caused by lack of Folic Acid in the mother so how would that fall on God?

And yes, disabilities can make us stronger IF we don't let them pull us down and become negative about it. Look at all the disabled who have overcome their handicap in other ways. You didn't see Franklin Roosevelt throw in the towel after he had polio ~ he became President and didn't let it hold him back from pursuing his dreams. Any trial in our life can make us stronger if we work to get around it and find positive ways to solve the problem instead of whining and crying and giving up.

And why does everyone want to blame God? Why not blame the devil who is the one responsible for all the hate and problems in this world?

hey there, God didn't create people with disabilities. And doesn't desire anyone to suffer, from my bible study i've learned that humans were originally created perfect (yes the Adam and Eve story), due to their disobedience they lost their perfection and eventually died. Since we are their offpsring, we automatically have inherited sin and death.

That's where Jesus comes in, his ransom sacrifice provided (his life and his coming to earth as a human and his death) opened up the way for us as humans to be a part of the Kingdom that he taught his followers to pray for (the lords prayer, thats a real kingdom, ruled by Jesus and his father and we're the product of that, to live on the earth, in a world that doesn't have sickness.)

Thing is we are not there, YET. Satans challenge to God back there in Eden was that man could rule himself, that they could do fine without him and his guidance. (obviously he was wrong because we can see where human rulership has gotten us)

That is the whole theme of the Bible, God's Kingdom, its what Jesus preached about on the earth when he was on the hillsides talking to people. That Kingdom is real, and according to Bible prophecies that have been and are yet to be fulfilled, we're getting close to being a part of that Kingdom.

So soon, if you look at Revelation chapter 21: 3,4 it shows us the great outcome of a world without death and sickness. Will be great not to have disabilities to deal with.

i believe that we are here on earth for a purpose. and if it is to learn a lesson or to teach one, a disibility is an accomplishment one must take on during their life. it teaches "normal" people to not take advantage of every day life and it makes the disabled person learn to live and work with their disibility and make it an accomplishment instead of a set back in their life.
