That is a great idea and I know some one would appreciate it. I have spent some time around the nursing homes and there are so many old ladies with no kids or with family who just dont bother. Bake some muffins or something else yummy and pick a bunch of pretty flowers and do it.

Depends... I think I would rather go to an "assisted living facility." The people at these locations are usually the nice old people and will enjoy a visitor. Nursing homes are often filled with sick and dying people that sometimes don't like visitors. I used to be a co-leader with Girl Scouts and we took Mom's Day Cards last year and alot of the people weren't very receptive to the girls. Just check where you're going first but it sounds like a great and thoughtful idea!

My mother and I are distant. I usually send a card or just make a phone call to let her know that I care. Nursing homes are bad enough, I would suggest making a short but sweet apperance and leave them with something to enjoy (like food, candy, new clothes).

Nursing homes are very sad places some people never get visits. It is a wonderful idea but be prepared for the conditions, smells etc. I used to do a lot of nursing home visits as a volunteer its very rewarding but it can be sad too. Blessings.

I think it's a beautiful idea! I would call ahead and see if they have some women there who they know won't be having visitors. Also, they may not be ok with just letting strangers in.
If you belong to a church, you might ask about any homebound parishoners who might like a visit.
