Not sure why you'd need to remove Windows. You will still be able to access the data. If you're just wanting a clean drive you'll need to find a system disk that will allow you to format the drive.

If you want to turn an internal hard drive into an external drive, then you need a IDE to USB adapter (called an enclosure) first. This is also the easiest step to erasing what's currently on the drive.
After buying the enclosure, install the hard drive, then plug it into a USB port. The computer will see the drive, automatically install software, and open the list of files. You can either just delete everything (should work) or format the now external drive (will work).

You don't need to remove XP first. When you hook the drive up to a computer as an external drive, go into "Disk Manager" and reformat it.

there are many options to do, u can either format it, or go down to windows ME, or vista, you can go up, but its harder to go down. just re format it, and you might see a screen that says

Just format it.
It is quicker than deleting everything.
