Answer is 7 31/45
Below are all the steps and the how and why!
First thing is to find a LCD - lowest common denominator – a multiple of both 15 and 9 (your two denominators) – the multiple you are looking for is 45.
Now that you have 45 you have to change both your fractions to 30 ?/45 and 22 ?/45. As soon as that is done you will then chage your fraction to Improper fraction and I'll tell you why when you get there.
30 7/15 - 22 7/9 =
30 21/45 - 22 35/45 — you can subtact 22 from 30 no problem but how are you going to subtract the fractional numbers?? How are you going to subtract 22 from 21?? You can't do it. There are two different things you could do. One is to regroup but it is difficult to explain using a computer. The other one is to change both of your fraction to Improper fractions. Remember how? 30 21/45 would be 30 x 45 +21 and 22 35/45 is 22 x 45 + 35. Your two fractions are now
1371 / 45 and 1025 / 45. Here is what we have now!
30 7/15 - 22 7/9 =
30 21/45 - 22 35/45 =
1371 / 45 - 1025 / 45 =
346 / 45 = 7 31/45

first subtract 22 from 30: 30-22=?
Then find a common denominator for 7/15 and 7/9 by finding the LCD.
Lastly, subtract the fractions and add it to the whole numbers and viola! You get the answer. Good Luck!
