Well ODIs started in 1971 between Aus and Eng. India did not get to play it until the world cup in 1975. They lost all games except to E.Africa. However their first major victory was against Pakistan at Quetta in 1978-79 . Bishan Bedi was the captain then and thanks to an allround debut performance from M.Amarnath (51 and 2/38), India wony by 4 runs.

The answer is B.S.Bedi. He captained Indian Team during the period from 1975/76 and 1978/79. Under his captaincy 4 ODI were played by India. They won 1 match and lost 3 matches.
