I have severe problems with my oral and socialcommunication skills, on a 1 to 1 level I am fine - but when someone else is watching or we're having to discuss and talk in a group I dry up -my mind goes blank and i don't know what to say - I'll have something to say but can't open my mouth - if I try I'll stutter and mumble or the words come out irrationally. It is a serious problem as it's causing me to lose jobs or failing to get them and also my oral based college seminars. My relationshipswith people are terrible- conversations only last 3 lines -I either stop talking as I don't know how to carryon the the conversation or I've just discouraged the other person too much. I'm in my late 20s- i have no friends -the probable result of why my social skills are so underdeveloped. I also find it difficult to keep eye contact. Where could I go for help? I've joinedclubs and extracirricular activities but still facedwith these problems -it's a vicious circle. Please help..

The book "Self Therapy for the Stutterer" helped with uncles and cousins who stuttered and had low social skills because of the stuttering. Perhaps, it would be helpful for you. It is published by The Stuttering Foundation and can be found in some public libraries. See if your library has it or get it from the Foundation. Toastmasters is another source of help.

first: relax... do not work yourself up about it...it will make it worse...don't think before you start talking (not don't think about what you're going to say but try not to think about how you are speaking) because you are making it worse for yourself by imagining that you will stuff up...be positive

second: go and see someone, its obviously stemmed from somewhere...either try a speech therapist or a normal therapist...one will train you to speak properly the other one will try to find the reason why you have so many issues.

try talking to people on the phone (family members you don't know so well, gives you something to talk about...ask them questions) not just one on one do a conference call...that way you can't see them. if you still do it on the phone...you'll know its not just a face to face problem.

another thing you might try ...talking to people who don't shut up...you will only have to imput 3 lines anyway. and that will also give you an idea of how to talk...if you get what i mean

try researching conversation material...watch some movies get examples of conversations and learn from them. talk about things you like...surely then you will have something to say.

but seriously go and talk to someone it sounds like its a big problem than you need to sort out to move on with your life and be happy....and happiness is really important!

good luck :)

First, study extra approximately helpful verbal substitute. the internet or your community library the two furnish super materials. Then, in case you want to hone your verbal communications skills, connect a communicate team that specializes in subjects of interest to you; volunteer to teach or teach others in a community in which you're experienced; or connect a debating team. to advance written communications skills: write! Write letters to distant acquaintances and relatives; save a diary or magazine; write articles for newsletters or the community paper; commence running a blog; or maybe answer questions at Yahoo solutions.

You need to build up your self confidence and to work on your speeches prior with the help of cue cards
Take a wall with a mirror and talk at it
Practise again and again until its perfect
then pat your self on the back and reward your self
Practise with friends and with family

May be go see a speech therapist and they might be able to help
