I guess it depends on how big the desk is. The dimensions are listed on the page you provided. They are 17"W x 18 1/2"H x 10 1/4"D.

It's pretty small as far as aquariums go. I had one a little bit larger on my desk at work.

You will need an aquarium heater. I suggest a small 25 watt submersible. Bettas are tropical fish and the water should be warm and consistent. About 78F is perfect but anywhere between 75F and 82F is fine as long as it doesn't fluctuate much.

Bettas are from shallow streams with lots of vegetation. This is their comfortable habitat. If you get a large tank be sure that you have plenty of plants in it for it to "rest on" and hide under. You should never let the Temperature go below 75 degrees, so run the heater only when your tank thermometer threatens to dip below 75 degrees.

I think is would be perfect for a dorm room desk. I would certainly recommend a heater, dorms lose heat from time to time, people leave doors open who know what elsse. Besides, a small heater to handle that tank is fairly cheap.

That is a nice little tank for one.

You don't 'need' a heater, but your betta will benefit not only from warmer water, but more importantly, stable water.

Also get some plants (fake is fine, silk is nicer then plastic) and you'll find that betta's do indeed do more then float around.

If you are just using the tank for a betta fish, then yes...the tank is big enough. Bettas are tropical fish and like their water a bit warm (around 70-80 degrees). Bettas don't require a lot of room as they are more floaters than they are swimmers.

the tank is a good size and i don't think you need a heater unless you are going to be in cold weather.
