I have a severe problemwith my oral and socialcommunication skills, when speaking on a 1 to 1 level I am fine - but when someone else is watching or we're having to discuss and talk in a group I dry up -my mind goes blank and i don't know what to say - I'll have something to say but can't open my mouth - if I try I'll stutter and mumble or the words come out irrationally. It is a serious problem as it's causing me to lose jobs or failing to get them and also my oral based college seminars. My relationshipswith people are terrible- conversations only last 3 lines -I either stop talking as I don't know how to carryon the the conversation or I've just discouraged the other person too much. I'm in my late 20s - i have no friends -the probable result of why my social skills are so underdeveloped. I also find it difficult to keep eye contact. Where could I go for help? I've joinedclubs and extracirricular activitiesbut i am still facedwith these problems -it's a vicious circle. Please help..

I would suggest going to a therapist. They can help you address where your problem is coming from (i.e. fear, or bad experience) and help you to address it. This is obviously interferring with your quality of life so I would definetly seek out help from a therapist. They will offer a number of different approaches and help you find the right one that fits your lifestyle and problem

Good luck

Really? I know a man who stutters when he's talking one on one or in as mall group.
His occupation? He's a professional singer, even did a bit with the Metropolitan Opera.
Part of his problem, when he sings, people just listen. Talking, he's afaid someone may disagree.
OK/ As for you! I'm notherapist beyhere's some imput. relax, and whenyou're talkingto someone, s@@@@ theperson who is watching or listening. Get some GOOD friends and practice this. Get over this problem, then work on the next. A handful of close friends is better than membership in a dozen clubs.
--YOU still in College? See a Psych professor. help might be right in front of you.
Goodluck.

I am not a professional but if you can make to 1 to 1 then you are capable however in front of a third person or audience you will easily get distracted.this implies that your mind is doing more than one thing at time .the fact is that a mind can do only one thing at at time efficiently .
everybody to some degree has a fear of judgement and keeping those barriers under control is also one important skill just like your profession.

I tend to be extremely shy and hate DETEST social events... can you remember if there was a time where you felt comfortable talkin to others? maybe you can recall why it happened before and not now...

i try putting small challenges to myself everyday to destroy this sadness... one example, one day i decided that i had to talk louder than usually (as i tend to whisper due to shyness), slowly slowly its better.

if that doesnt help, try drama or drama therapy!
