Free speech...the right to express an opinion freely.
Is there any limit to where it crosses over the line?
Should there be?

Is it OK to yell "FIRE!" in a crowded theater?
(to use an old argument)

THE LATEST:
XM Satellite Radio shock jocks Opie and Anthony apologized Friday for airing a homeless man's crude comments that he'd like to have sex with Condoleezza Rice, Laura Bush and Queen Elizabeth.

Opie and Anthony laughed as they imagined Rice's "horror" while describing a violent sexual encounter in which Condoleezza Rice is punched in the face.

Many of your comments are noteworthy...
BUT, I believe we ALWAYS must honor the FIRST AMENDMENT...
it is ONE reason our country is so great and separates us from the others.

You say....
"Feee speech is ANY speech."
"Don't like what you hear...turn it off!"
"It's why Satellite Radio was formed."
"O & A were wrong to apologize!"
"The Feds should not get involved..."
and...
"The First Amendment is a double-edged sword."

All sound, valid points and food for thought.

I like your question. This is a good one. I can not stand O&A on XM. This is also how I feal about Howard Stern on Sirius. Let me say I think what O&A broadcasted on XM was wrong to all extents of moral obligation. However The 1st addmendent is a double edged sword. It can work on your behalf and it can also kill you. Just ask Don Imas. LOL. Satelite radio fall under diffrent laws than the radio waves ruled under the FCC guidelines. Satellite radio is a subscriber based service as I am sure you already know. Know for O&A being possibly fired from XM only the sucriber base at XM will determine the out come. I do belive there days are numbered. Thank God. Maybe they will get some one more entertaining. Know should the FCC get involved in satellite radio? No of course not. Sucribers pay for this service and subscribers will let XM know what they think by either listining or not listining to their crap. It would be like saying you have Satelite TV but beings a few people don't like Playboy TV you don't have the right to view it. That would be rediclious in even it's consideration. For my last thought I hope that XM sucribers speek up and O&A are in the unemloyment line!

No satellite radio is not a public system you have to pay to extra money to receive it. If you don't like what you hear turn the channel. the radios also come with an option to block any channels you don't want your children to here, this has been the best invention in a long time, we really don't need the government destroying it, why do you think you need the government to regulate everything? use your rights as an American and turn the channel don't just give up your rights!!

I think the regulation should be about how upset people get over stupid things. Big deal...Imus said Nappy-headed ho's. Black rappers use that language all the time. Does anyone get upset over that? No. How about a regulation on social double-standards? The only thing Imus's statement did was fuel the fire for people like Sharpton to further their own agenda and create more divide among society under the guise of fighting for minority rights..

although I do not agree with opie and anthony you are very correct. Free Speech is any speech, on the air or in your car. The way I personally look at it is there are 2 buttons on your radio if you do not like it. One to turn the station and the other to turn it OFF.

You pull a quote from 1993, whilst the banks unquestionably did mortgage funds. They did it once I have been given my loans in 2005. it rather is barely whilst Obama took the student mortgage application over that Banks can not mortgage funds. How ignorant are you besides?

The Feds should not get involved with any satellite radio. Satellite radio is a subscription service, and if people want to pay for that crap, then let them.

No, its pay radio, O&A were wrong to apologize, I lost all respect for them now. I am much much more offended by the lies and bigotry Rush Limbaugh and sean Hannity say on radio, they are the ones who should be silenced.

There should never be a limit to free speech. If you are offended you ought to toughen up. The world is no place for sensitive folks.

I am more in favor of teaching people how to change the channel if they find something that disturbs them being broadcast.
