Song vs Piece?

why is orchestral music referred to as "Pieces" but other genres use "Songs"?

Because a song has to be sung...orchestral is only instruments.

because some orchestra music is only pieces of a song..

i have no idea. my friend looked at me wierd when i asked her what "song" she was playing at her violin thingy. then she told me it was a "piece"

its the same difference to me.
