Cross stitch is great, but it will take you more than 2 days to learn and produce something. Cut pictures out of magazines and make a collage of images and words that show all the wonderful things your mother has done for you, how much you love her, and how much she means to you. Get a frame. Also, a nice black and white photograph of you and your mother in a frame would be a lovely gift.

I'm a cross-stitch buff, as you can tell. You can do a picture for her, or if you're feeling brave, a shirt. Find a cross-stitch book that has simple patterns, like borders, and buy some waste canvas. Center the waste canvas where you want the design on the shirt and baste it there (be VERY sure it's straight). Stitch the pattern (most books worth their salt will have a stitching guide inside the cover). When you've finished, wet the canvas thorougly. Put a towel on your lap, put the shirt on the towel, and working your way from the outside in, carefully pull the threads out--the connections come apart when they're wet, and will even pull out from under the stitches. The wet waste canvas is a little gummy, so wash the shirt before you give it to her. There are patterns out there for anything under the sun, so it should be easy to find a pattern of something she likes.
