to figure this out you have to make a proportion

3 3/4 over 5 then find the irrational number for 3 3/4 which is 15/4 and turn it into a decimal which would be 3.75 then divide 5 by 3 3/4 and you get .75 as your answer

3 3/4 = 15/4 divide this by 5 so you will have 15/4 X 5/1= 75/4 div .4 into 75 and you get 18 and 3/4 mph.

First find the average in miles per minute. Then convert that figure to miles per hour.

3.75 mi / 5 min = 0.75 mi/min

Now we convert the number of miles per minute to the number of miles per hour by multiplying 0.75 mi/min by the number of minutes in an hour:

0.75 (mi/min) x 60 (min / hr) = (0.75 x 60)(mi/min x min/hr)

The minute units cancel when we multiply them together above, and we are left with:

(0.75 x 60)(mi/hr) = 45 mi/hr.
