I just got a really nice ring that I'd like to take care of properly. Do you ring-wearers take off your ring when you wash your hands (or otherwise get your hands wet, like washing dishes), or do you just leave it on?
Also, anyone have a recipe for jewelry cleaners?
Thanks, all!

I wear my engagment ring all the time, except if I am doing dishes, or know that what I am working with on or, could cause to get buildup on the ring. You definitely don't want a hunk of carrot or something stuck under the diamond, and you have to have it cleaned. :o)

I'd say if you are just washing you hands in the bathroom, that shouldn't be a problem.

I'd look into where the ring was purchased, they typically offer free cleaning.

I was the exact same way you are! I always do something different, I started off taking it off every time I washed my hands. No, depending on where I am I just leave it on. If I'm in a public bathroom I leave it on just because I have been known to leave rings behind, and I would DIE if I left my new one behind. I would just go to Walmart and find a jewelry cleaner...most of them work pretty well.

Yes I do wash my hands with my rings on. Take it off if you are putting on hand lotion or cooking something messy like mixing meatloaf or kneading bread with your hands. There are these baths you can soak jewery in that heats up the cleaning solution, but I use a jewery cleaner in a red and gold container. You can get this at jewery stores and its not too expensive about 10 dollars. You soak your ring in this and it keeps it shiny, clean and new. Not sure of the name. Dish soap like Dawn is gentle and cleans rings perfectly with a toothbrush too.

I usually just take my rings off cause most of them are not a real metal anyways...usually something that tarnishes eventually cause I'm cheap. LOL. I have a few that are real white gold & one that is surgical steel & will occasionally leave them on but not too often.

I'm told Dawn liquid dish detergent (used to wash dishes) is ok to use for cleaning rings...only when they need it...because it's gentle. Just use a bit with warm or luke warm water, a soft bristle toothbrush & then rinse in clear cool water.

I wear at least 4 rings every day and I never ever clean them. I wash my dishes with my rings on and also wash my hands several times a day with the rings on. The dishwashing detergent cleans them all just fine.

I think that you should buy some jewelry cleaner and wash your hands without your ring on.

um ookay, take off the ring when u wash your hands. U dont want it to grow like fungus on it. I kept washing my ring and it turned into a icky color even though it was 10 k gold.

u should take off ur ring when u wash ur hands because eventually it will rust or the color will change...not becuase its cheap or whatever but its just erosion. You can put ur jewelry in vinegar and baking soda to clean them

you have to take it off. it will fade the ring material or rust it. just get a jewelery cleaner from a jewelery store. homemade ones never work as good.
