I have seen on some forums people who have got a reduction in price from BT by threatening to go to another ISP. Do some searching and find better prices. Get some ammo before you talk to BT.
Why would you want to stay with BT when there are far better deals and better suppliers out there. If you are on a LLU exchange have a look at sources below for info.

my advice irk, stay with bt broadband,i have been with them since i got broadband and i have used other broadband packages at freinds houses and none of them come near to bt
i know bt is slightly more expensive than most others, but the service and support is good(not brilliant) and as bt are the defualt telephone supplier in the u.k they have ussually the best connection speeds aswell
theres alot of i.s.p,s promising to give you "up to" 8mbits connection, this is a false statement, anyone can say up to 8meg,even if they only give you 1 meg, this is because of the word"up to",no isp will be able to give you a full 8meg connection, and most only give you around 2 to 3 meg, even though they promise up to 8meg
theres a i.s.p just come out that promises up to 24meg,but in their small print they again state you will probally only get around 2 meg
no if thats not mis-selling i dont know what is,next you will be seeing 50mbit broadband, but all you will get is probally 4meg
until bt update their phone lines to the standard you see in countrys like south korea broadband speeds in this country will continue to be some of the slowest in the world
stick with bt(broadband option 3)or if you need to switch go to virgin media(used to be n.t.l)
good luck mate

If you say you are going to leave they will give you a discount on your new contract.
