80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

My thinking on this topic for about a decade gave me many answers including the one above here, but none of them, I repeat, NONE of them tells me the ultimate purpose of life. All of them tell me something to do for another person/nature which in turn makes it easier to live in this life but does not answer the question of the very purpose of LIFE.

I think, LIFE on this planet Earth (out of entire universe) can be described in 2 ways :

1. To know the purpose, we need to know what is life and where else is it, and who controls it from outside. To know this, we shud know what is outside this universe and how and where this ends. If it ends where ? and what is there beyond ?
If id does not end, why not and how can something be un-ending ??

This would answer bigger misteries along with the question of what is life and then we can know the purpose of life.

2. To accept that, LIFE on this plante earth is just a rarest of the rare ACCIDENT. where every situation was suitable enough for this miracle to happen that a cell is born and from there is born multi cell and over a period of time complex things/bodies including that of a man.

Its high time that intelligentia of the universe starts wrking on this !!

I admit I don't know. But, I don't think anyone else knows either. I've heard theories. I've heard religions. But none seem to have a very convincing reason for life. To date, I like the Buddhist concept the best. It has some sense to it (e.g. coming back to the same world over and over in either a better or worse state than your previous life) though scientifically I don't see it working.

Who ever said that there is a meaning to life?

To know the meaning of life, you must understand that if left to itself, nothing will improve; it will deteriorate over time. Therefore, the meaning of life must be to take care of the Earth and try to help society and the health of the earth improve.

Life – it has a meaning and loving purpose - you just have to find your purpose and live it.

I believe every person is here for a definite purpose. Each person is special and valuable; that refers to me, you, your family, friends, in fact everybody! There is a loving plan for each of our lives here on earth and there is no such thing as coincidence. I don't believe that anything in life happens by chance and that every aspect of our lives points to something deeper.

You need to decide now to live for God rather than for yourself. You spend your life on Earth preparing yourself (as best you can) for death. I don't see death as a scary, negative experience, but birth into a bliss filled eternal life with God. I believe that this is something you have to consciously choose or not during your life on earth.

The meaning of life is for us to discover that we are true children of an infinitely loving God, to find out what our responsibilities are to our Creator, and to fulfill those responsibilities. Each of us is called to affirm, accept and develop the talents God has given us. -

The meaning of life is whatever you make it. You can find a purpose, or just meander through to the end.

According to the US government, the point of life is to work hard paying the salary of the government employees until your are about 65 years old, and then to die quickly before you draw too much social security.
