It has to do with God warning Lot to take his family our of Sodom and Gomorrah before He destroyed the twin cities. God told him to leave and take the family with him and that they were not to look back.. Lot's wife looked back and was turned into a pillar of salt.
A French friend once said to me, 'The German's have really learned the lesson of Lot's wife.' 'What?' I asked.
'Well, when they want to overtake on the motorway, they never look back.' True.
Nice point!

The side and rear view mirrors are for quickly glancing in to make sure you are not being tailgated, when changing lanes, and a cop is not behind you. You should only physically turn and look behind you when backing out of a parking spot.

You are not actually looking back when you look in a car mirror, you are looking forward and merely seeing a reflection of what is behind

It's all about being in control. not looking back would be ignorance & denial by refusing to acknowledge whats behind you while happily moving forward.

Unfortunatley things behind you tend to pop up at some stage, so its allways good to have a mirror to check and be prepared.

Looking back through rear-view mirrors of automobiles is in fact an extension to our inclination and the ability to look at all that is in front of us. It is the way by which we like to take a peek into what is ahead of people who are behind us, which is simply our own self. Therefore, in an indirect way we like to find out where in reference to other people around us we are on a big wide road we are travelling on. Besides, if we do not take care of what is behind us, what is behind us might soon become our all that is in front of us. Whatever the way you may like to look at it, it turns out to be things ahead of us on the road that we find ourselves interested in. Things that are behind us are the things that we might think are left behind, but the fact is they never give up the chase.

i don't know why they have mirrors, cos some people never use them, like when they pull out infront of you. Or they never indicate and just slow down and turn at the last minute as if no one is behind them.

What you see in the mirror is a glimpse of the present, and seeing this present allows you to avoid mistakes that might take place in the immediate future.

you actually have to look back, but never focus entirely on what's behind you.
one of my favorite quotations is by Soren Kierkegaard..
"Life can only be understood backwards,
But it must be lived Forwards"
ive often asked question about Life as a Journey, coz it is indeed a journey we all take.... you always have to look ahead where you're going, but never forget where you came from... only then you'd be able to know if you're on the right track... but never live for the past... you'd certainly crash your car & go nowhere.
Safe driving... Live responsibly
