When I see a minivan that is what I see. I think that the SUV segment has established itself in my mind in looks and practicality. When you look at the brands, Acura, Daimler Chrysler and Mazda; as a potential buyer, you have to look at the execution of the brand. Each has a niche market that the product is literally engineered towards. The Mazda CX7 and CX9 are probably a better value proposition for the money. The CX7 has a turbocharged 4 cylinder, the CX9 has a V6. The power may be the same, but a larger stroke engine has a greater range of usable power in a heavier framed vehicle. The intended result, is that Mazda wants to sell the public on a car-like ride, smooth transmission, impressive handling and a punchy engine. They accomplish this with great clarity to the "Zoom Zoom" mantra. Where the two products separate themselves is gas mileage, load and seating capacity. I think you have to consider what is the cost to you for any of the aforementioned brands. Compare what do you get for the money. What you don't get with a Mazda is prestige as a brand, compared to Acura and Daimler Chrysler. I personally don't think Mazda has the sophistication of a luxury brand, they will not coddle you like Lexus Dealership, nor will they bend over backwards, besides that, see for yourself.

Well, the only difference between a minivan is frame and that a minivan has sliding door...so yeah they do look similar. My problem with the new CX-7/9 is that they seem a bit over-priced for what you get. A fully loaded CX-7 cost as much as a loaded Hyundai Veracruz, which is a nicer vehicle. The issue with the CX-9 is...its got the same power as the CX-7 even though it has a much larger engine. The new Rav4 and Saturn Vue are also nice with their V6 engines.

It IS a minivan. Its for people like you that dont want a minivan, so they flatten the design a little, lose the sliding door and call it a crossover.
