If you are very ill or you are depressed, you may feel like you have nothing to contribute or you are actually dragging your family down with you -- like their lives would be better without you. The very ill / dying don't want to be a burden. It also resolves pain for people who are in extreme pain. It saves scarce medical assets for those who can get better by eliminating those who are terminal. I don't necessarily believe in any of these statements but I've thought or heard these things.

Well, I guess the only good advantages that I can see to suicide is when maybe you have someone who is in excrutiating pain and is suffering from a terminal illness such as Lou Gehrigs disease or Huntington's disease who know that they will never improve, the person can make the conscionable choice to end their life and their suffering. Although I do not approve of suicide, when you have someone who is suffering from a terrible and terminal illness like the two that I mentioned above, you have to think about the quality of life that they must be living, from having to be completely dependent on someone else to virtually being a prisoner of your own body. At least the person is aware of the choice that they are making and are aware that they will be ending their life to end their suffering and pain and also so that they end the burden of having to have someone else care for them. Other advantages are of course that you won't have to work, pay taxes and you will never again have anything to worry about. You'll be free of any and all responsibilites that as a living person most people have.

I only have a Spiritual explanation to my answer, hope it will be helpful in your debate. According to modern Spirituality/New Age Spirituality (some religions might agree, might not...) we, humans all "sign a contract" before we enter our new lives on Earth. In this contract there is our "blue print" what we are assigned to do, what we are to experience and accomplish in our lifetimes. If someone commits suicide, he/she ends this "contract" abruptly, which he/she has to make up for in the next life....adding additional "karma" to balance out. So therefore, in my opinion, THERE ARE NO ADVANTAGES OF SUICIDE.

You don't punish your family by pissing and moaning about your crappy life. They have their own problems; they don't need to hear about your boyfriend breaking up with you because you won't put out.
