However, it is not uncommon to find that many women do report getting what seem like regular periods during early pregnancy. The bleeding that pregnant women complain about though is not truly a menstrual period. It can be called as early pregnancy bleeding. The perception of having a menstrual period (or more than one) in early pregnancy can confuse the due date and delay some pregnant women from seeking appropriate and timely medical care.

If you really do have a period, as opposed to a little spotting, then either you weren't really pregnant or if you were, you probably had a miscarriage. Women can miss periods for other reasons besides pregnancy. This would be something to check with your doctor about. Basically, once the egg is fertilized, you're technically pregnant. But it might not attach to the uterine wall or for some other reason it might fail to develop. If you're farther along - the uterus is full of amniotic fluid, placenta and the developing fetus. Then bleeding isn't normal or expected and probably isn't due to menstruation.

I hate to disagree with some of the other people on here but the answer is yes you can although it is not very common.

My Mum was 4 months pregnant with me and was still hvaing periods, she was 4 and a half months gone before she found out she was pregnant with me.

These were proper periods.....only came once a month and lasted about 5 days, just as it walways was with her.

very rare to have a real period when pregnant. spotting ot breakthrough bleeding is probably more like it. tell your doctor.

my ob/gyn said her sister had regular periods throughout pregnancy and in fact did not discover she was really preg until 7 months in since she had no reason to suspect. but this is extremely rare.

if you bleed while you are pregnant that signals a miscarriage. your body naturally supresses the menstrual cycle while pregnant, the high levels of estrogen are what does it to keep the lining of the uterus flurishing with nutrients for baby. if you bleed while pregnant you need the doctor because something is not right
