Loud sounds which come out of the tower can be a few things. Your power supply can be one piece of hardware that will produce a loud sound when it's failing. You can purchase a spray can to clean out all the fans in your tower as well as everything else. You will be surprised at how much dust gets accumulated inside the tower. Aside from power supply, and the fans inside the case, your hard drive could be failing. Open up the tower and you will be able to hear where the sound is coming from.

Check you fans. Some older computers, and newer ones, use(d) lower quality fans which can contribute to noise. There is a fan on your processor, one inside power supply and possibly others inside the case or on your video card.

Some fans can be controlled by the motherboard, these will usually remain dormant until the board tempuratures start to rise. When gaming or during intense processor work, these fans will kick on, causing more noise.

If you want to replace your fans look for "ultra quiet" types with lower db (decibal) ratings, somewhere around 20 or less. These are usually ball bearing types, although there are sleeve types that are quiet as well.

Take a look at Vantec fans http://www.vantecusa.com/product-cooling.html# , they make a case fan that is pretty quiet (http://www.frys.com to purchase). For your power supply this can be tricky, try Mad Dog power supplies (available at Circuit City). For your video card, you may not be able to replace it.

You probably need a new fan(s). Or, atleast, clean out the fan(s) that are making all the noise.
