I had a pretty happy baby for the most part, latley it seems like he just gets really cranky and cries for no reason. I never know when he is going to be happy or cranky from one day to the next, so I am terrified to ever leave him because I don't want him to be crying the whole time when i am not there. He was sleeping pretty much through the whole night, now he is back to waking up a few times. He doesn't do the same thing anytime of anyday eating and napping is still very eratic, so I have no idea where to start as to getting some kind of schedule started. I keep trying to get a pattern going in the hopes that that will help with the crankyness, but maybe I am crazy. Any advice on how to get some kind of schedule going or any other advice at all. Thanks

Im also a first time mom and experienced the same thing. My son was realy happy for the longest and then all of a sudden one day and for a couple weeks after he started getting real crabby. But dont worry it shall pass, and when it does you will have your happy smiley baby back. Have Fun and Happy Mother's Day

My baby is just a little older than yours and is doing the same thing. If he is not otherwise sick, it could be his teeth or just his age. I've found that as my babies are getting more interested in the things that are going on around them, they want to sleep less, but they still need lots of sleep so they get overtired and then crabby.
Since the baby is still too young to "spoil", I spend lots of time cuddling him and rocking him when he is fussy... and the house is a mess because of it... but we are both happier.
As far as creating a schedule goes, I have a schedule for me and the older kids but not the baby. For instance, we usually got to the zoo or the park in the morning and the older kids nap in the afternoon. We still do these things, but I feed the baby before we leave and take care of anything he needs when he needs it while we are out and about. I found that with my twins, eventually they adjusted to this this type of routine... However, they were almost 9 months before I could truly plan around them.

It could be colic. I would recommend if you are bottle feeding to see if the formula is too strong for your babies tummy. I have know lots of babies that are OK on a certain formula at first and then all of a sudden it starts to become harsh causing them to cry. Your baby could also be going through a growth spurt and is crying because he/she wants more milk. When my daughter was 11 weeks she was already drinking 5 oz.

i had some problems w/my daughter being cranky. her problem was the formula. i had to try several before we found the right one for her. she ended up having a sensitivity to regular formula after a few months and we finally settled with similac alimentum. she also would be very cranky due to gas, and the mylicon drops help us out so much! you're not crazy, it just takes time and patience...i know it's hard, i've been there, but sometimes you just don't know why you're baby is crying...hang in there...

Some babies begin teething this young, though you may not see an actual tooth for a couple of more months. Or maybe it's gas. You should try the Mylicon Drops for this. Just some thoughts.

I have 3 children oldest is 9. From my experience it sound like your baby may need to be burped or have gas. You can buy mylicon (not sure of spelling) it works great. It's safe for newborn up. Good Luck!

could be teething . . . could be that he's going through a growth spurt and is still hungry . . . but don't worry! . . my son just passed through a similar phase (he's 12 weeks old!) . . .
