Yes. As long as it is the same computer you it will work just fine.
You might have to call microsoft to reactivate it, though.

You can add the new drive and set the drive as a "slave" by changing the new drive's jumper. Windows will recognize it and you can format it. If you want it to be the main drive, you can do that, but you'll have to re-install/re-activate Windows.

If you want to save all your files and programs you've installed without having to reinstall everything, here is a great tool. One of my drives (my boot drive of course) was failing and I found this site and cloning utility, used it, and it worked without a hitch.

It's free and has good instructions.
Hook your new drive up, make sure the jumper is set to slave. XP will find it, then you can clone your old one to the new one, make it the boot drive and your done.

You will have to format the old one, so it erases windows xp and then install windows onto the new one, otherwise it wont work.
