I have a 2.5 gallon aquarium at work with a betta (male), ghost hrimp, and mystery snail. I just cleaned it this morning (25% water change). Now, I look in the tank and midlevel attached to the side of the tank are about 30 little pinkish orange dots. They look like tiny eggs, but who could they have come from?

I have attached a photo I took with my cell phone:

Kinda blurry...

I bought the snail last week. It says they need a male and female to produce, I only have one. How long does it take after breeding to lay eggs?

Ghost shrimp carry their eggs on their legs. So based on what you said you have in the tank this would be mystery snail eggs. (the annoying snails that all the other posters mentioned lay clear eggs in an opaque jelly substance and are A sexual meaning you only need one. However mystery snails are NOT A sexual and must have a partner to make viable eggs. There for if you only have one she was carrying the fertile eggs before you got her or she became gravid and just laid unviable eggs. You have a couple of choices Go ahead and leave them and see if they hatch or move them to a smaller tank set up to let them hatch out (providing they are viable). If you do not wish them to hatch either way remove them and dispose of them. Mystery snails are quite beneficial unlike the annoying take over your tank pond snails that so often take over aquariums when accidently introduced through live plants etc.

I think the snail has committed parenthood. However if it was the shrimp the Betta will be more than happy to tidy up the shrimp larvae for you. As to the people that said the snails are nasty, they only know about the pond snails that come in on plants your Mystery Snails don't reproduce at the high rate that Pond Snails do and are fun to watch as they grow up. Whoa that is blurry. Have fun with your fish, good luck.----PeeTee

it appears to be snail eggs. some species of snails can lay eggs with/without a mate. the eggs may be sterile, but they can still lay nonetheless, almost like a chicken. I had a turbo snail that did that. also some species of snails (since they are hermaphroditic) can hold sperm within their bodies from the last mating for quite some time.

The snail is reproducing. They will do this, and they will take over your tank. They reproduce quickly.

omg, get that out of your tank. You want them out before they hatch!!!They wil hatch , then they will reproduce like crazy. It happened to my friend. She had about one HUNDRED of them in and around fish bowl. You have to get rid of that asap. They will take over your tank.
