Cookies are just small .txt (text) files that by themselves cannot hurt your computer. Cookies are "set" by almost every web-site that you visit, on every visit. You can delete all your cookies today and by tommorrow you will have dozens again.

You could have 50,000 cookies on your computer and it would not slow it down one bit!

They are not a virus or spyware, but some people consider "tracking" cookies to be an invasion of privacy.

Tracking cookies are mostly "3rd party cookies" from advertising servers. They can track your movements around the web in order to deliver to you customised, targeted advertising.

It all depends on one's level of paranoria.

If you are using Internet Explorer for a browser, you can permanantly block all 3rd party cookies. Go to tools > internet options > privacy > advanced > checkmark "override automatic cookie handling" > third party cookies > tick "block" > ok > ok.

You could run an anti spyware scan to get rid of the tracking cookies. AdAware may actually be an anti spyware program that helps keep your computer safe.

You may, however, be able to uninstall it by going to the Control Panel and then clicking on Add or Remove Programs and clicking on edit or remove next to the name of the program you don't want anymore.

Boot your computer in the safe mode (Press F8 at boot) and try again to delete them. Good luck

Try to remove them anti-virus, anti-spyware softwares and if that fails, I suggest that you reinstall your whole computer for the problem to go away.

If you have located them and you couldn't delete them because those files were in use, try to boot your PC to safe mode (CTR+F8 during Windows boot) and delete them.
