I think your 30's is sort of an awkward age group. We're not teens and we're no longer in our 20's, however we're not old enough to wear double knits or shop in the Worthington collection at JC Penny either... So it's either I dress like a floozy or a school marm, which is it? In this day and age, everything seems to be so youth-driven and a lot (not all) of the clothes seem to reflect that. We have never been so obsessed with youth and beauty, than we are in 2007. I myself have an extremely hard time finding clothes within my age group (I'm 34). I don't shop at Old Navy, but I hear it's for the whole family, right?? It should be ok for 30-somethings...

If people in their 30's are buying Old Navy, then The Gap's marketing strategy isn't working as well as it used to, or rising consumer prices are dictating that people tighten the clamps on their clothing budget.
If you think about it, The Gap's marketing strategy is set up to retain consumers as customers, regardless of age or income level. Old Navy is Gap's division that appeals to teenagers, younger adults and families first starting out. The price points and styles appeal to the above mentioned demographic. Once these younger/poorer consumers get established in their careers and lives as they get a little older, they graduate to shopping at The Gap, where the price points are a little higher and the quality of the clothing is a bit better. As the Gap shopper becomes more financially secure and mature in their taste for clothing, they graduate to The Gap's other division... Banana Republic.
If I had to guess, I'd say current economic factors are heavily influencing consumers' decisions to shop the less expensive clothing retailers.

I'm 56 and I wear some items from Old Navy. I didn't realize that some of you had set an age limitation for the rest of the population. I didn't get my memo!

because they like the style? because Old Navy has nice, relaxed clothes that are good for running after little kids and still looking stylish? Because people in their 30s want to look stylish and can't yet afford something more expensive

dress your age. at 33 you you can still wear outfits that are for younger people but you can also upgrade to a nice blazer and dress shoes. maybe even dress pants. mix what you think of as old person gear and young persons gear.

You shouldn't look at what others wear, but decide for yourself what you like. Just because a bunch of people do one thing does not imply that you have to do the same. Find your own style and stick with it.

Probably because it's affordable, but still looks like quality clothing. Also, when you get to be in your 30's, I imagine that you would start to feel a bit old. Dressing like you're younger helps you feel younger. Just don't wear glitter, lol.

in my opinion - paying for and wearing a multinational corporate logo is for chumps.
that being said. Old Navy has some decent 'basics' kind of clothes (the non-logo stuff) and its cheap.
