I use this formula: % / 100 = 'is' / 'of'

So if the question is "what is 45% of 400?" it looks like this:
45/100 = x/400

(45 is the %, x is the 'is' ("what is"), and 400 is the 'of' ("of 400").

Then you cross-multiply, and get (100*x)=(45*400) or 100x=18,000. Then divide both sides by 100, and you get x=180. So 180 is 45% of 400.

If the question goes "180 is what percent of 400?" then you write it out as x/100 = 180/400.
Cross-multiply and divide , and you come out with 45.

If the question is "180 is 45% of what?" Then the equasion is 45/100 = 180 / x Cross multiply and divide and you come out with 400.

Basically, the thing that varies is the "what" part. It becomes the x. It will either be the percentage, the 'is' or the 'of.'

Does that help?

Suppose you ask the following, "X is what percent of y?" What you are really doing is looking for is how many times y goes into x or x/y. To convert that fraction to a percentage, just multiply by 100 and stick a percent sign after it.

Here's an example: 5 is what percent of 20? So, 5/20 = 1/4 = .25 or 25%

Percentages are calculated as fractions of 100, so you could set up a proportion, where x is the percentage you are calculating. For example:

6/7=x/100

Solve for x by multiplying both sides by 100, and that's your answer.

In general you multiply by 100!

e.g. 3/5 = 300/5% = 60%

To work out a percentage of a nymber you divide by 100
e.g. 20% of 40 = 40 * 20/100 = 800/100 = 8

Well an easy way to do percentages is this: Let's say you want to know what is 5% of 60.

60 = 100%
? = 5% so you multiply 5 by 60 and then divide by 100

5*60=300/100 the answer is 3.

First you have to make a number with a decimal, usually by dividing one value (a piece) by the other value (total of all pieces), like1/4 = .25. Then you express that number as a decimal by multiplying it by 100 since percent is parts per 100. In the above example .25 multiplied by 100 becomes 25%.

Divide the top number by the bottom number. For instance,
1/2 would be 1 divided by 2, which equals .5, or 50%.
If someone was at bat 5 times and had 3 hits, his average would be 3 divided by 5.

all you have to do is the following:

say you want to find 25% of $100.00

just multiply 100 x 25%= 25

so 25% of 100.00 is 25

easy!

depending on exactly what you do with percentages but what is easiest for me is decimals

if you need to find 50% of something do Something x .50
50% increase will be something x1.50

1% = 0.01
10% = 0.1
100%=1.
