I am looking for what is similar to florist tape, but it resembles tree bark. Does anyone know what I am talking about and if so, where can I find it?

I have worked with brown, papery 'florist tape' sold for textile flowers. In my case it were nylon stocking flowers.
If you use it, you can crinkle it a bit when applying, so it gives an even more nature like tree-bark impression.
And because it is paper, you can use markers, or pencil, or even brush and ink to improve when needed.

You should look in the big craft-stores in the department with silk-flower making things.
Or go to a small shop and ask the owner if you can have a look in the catalog.
