4*4*4*4*4 = 4^5 = 2^10 =1024 ways.

If there was only on question, then the choices would be:
a b c d Four ways to answer one question
If there were two questions, then the posibilities would be:
aa ab ac ad ba bb bc bd ca cb cc cd da db dc dd Sixteen ways to answer two questions, which is 4^2
So, for five questions it would be 4^5 = 1024
for six questions 4^6 = 4096
etc

1024
n^r
n=4
r=5
4^5 = 1024
An example is how we write numbers (decimal system) if you have r digits then the number of combinations is n^r = 10^r
if we have 4 digits then we can have 10^4 = 10000 combinations (or numbers) from 0000 to 9999
