all people and creatures on this planet are worthy of respect unless they knowingly and willingly hurt harm or disrespect others.
i do personally think that we are all equal on this planet so no matter if you are a world leader or a tramp in a shop doorway you deserve the same degree of respect and humanity
if people are shown disrespect then generally they start to disrespect others

When that person makes someone else suffer gratuitously. When he or she preserves advantageous position in a situation by not telling things that would make the other seriously revise their position.
When a person can make a very little effort to help a great deal and does not do that.
When someone is totally egoist, profits from advangageous position and possibilities in life and despises those who don't have the same facilities.
But these people know how to handle their appearance very well, and so the others never know who they are until very disappointed. So it is hard to know when to withdraw one's respect for someone, when that someone does everything to seem flawless and faultless, while manipulating atrociously others' lives. There are many murderers going free, with clean hands and no records, because the victims suffer so much they cannot express themselves.
A bit of a digression at the end here but quite important things to say.

A person earns my respect when their words and actions match. If they adhere to a code of honor.

People that are not worthy of respect are those that do not follow a code of honor. Backstabbers and slanderers are a perfect example of people that I do not respect.

I will respect a person who doesn't have to list out and exaggerate all their qualities to be respected.. Humility is a gift.

Someone that tells the truth at least a majority of the time, someone who is strongly involved in their community, a person of faith, someone with a strong work ethic, and a strongsense of family. I also respect people who are well educated and realize that you can't be friends with your children, you are a parent.

i agree with the first answer and the second person is a jackass. i have dreads, and like art and music and self expression through what i look like, so you might be able to picture somewhat what i look like. i give everone respect. although because of the way i look i dont always get it back, it does bother me, but i remian respectful nontheless and show them how wrong they are at judging people. but then again their are all types of people in the world with different attitutes and thoughts because they think they are better than you. those people should just be ignored.

Someone may or may not be worthy of trust. I feel that I must seek to show all respect.

If only my compassion was as constant as my dogma.

It is my opinion that respect is earned when that person treats the other person with the same level of respect as they should be treated.
