I was thinking about stopping taking my pill today (which is almost the end of week 2 of my pack). I went to my obgyn yesterday and she prescribed me Yasmin (I am on Loestrin 24 fe) and told me to begin that after the next pill pack. I have been having terrible side effects with Loestrin 24 fe for the past six months--bloating, gas, depression/mood swings (because of my new apperance), swollen/tender breasts, and most importantly 10-15lb weight gain (despite valient effort to keep a lean diet and exercise 3-4 times a week). It's just that I want to start losing weight again, and another 2 weeks of being bloated and fat is depressing to think about. Would it be ok for me to stop taking my pill and then start again right after my would-be period? Or would that be a terrible idea? Thanks!

Added: My boyfriend and I discussed using condoms or just abstaining for the next two weeks. Also, Loestrin is a 24 day pill, so there are only 4 placebo pills--which leaves me with 13 more days of hormones. If it was like other pills and I only had one more week I would probably just tough it out. I tried to call my obgyn, but no answer today. I think I might just stop--my breasts kill and I'm tired of looking like a blowfish!

If the side affects are terrible, call your doctor up and ask her/him if you can stop at the end of the second week and start the new pack.

And if not, what does your doctor suggest if you stop taking Loestrin and went to start taking the new pack.

RE: Stopped Birth Control Pill Mid Cycle and no period, unprotected sex.? After 5 years on Ortho tri cyclen Lo, I stopped taking the pill on May 12 during the first week of the active pill. Since I stopped the pill mid cycle, shouldn't I have some sort of withdrawal period? Since then I have had unprotected sex from May 29-recently. Took a preg. test on the 3rd of...

It is better to keep taking the old pill this last week, then have your break and start in 2 weeks with the new pill.

But if you forget a pill at some point during the third week, instructions usually say that you can stop taking it and have the break earlier than usual...

The pills you take during your period are sugar pills anyway but It might cause some more unwanted side effects and an irregular mennstruation cycle. If you're gonna do it use other protection like a condom. I'd just follow your obgyn's instructions.

If you stop, wait for your period, then start on the Yasmin don't forget that there is the 2 weeks that the new stuff hasn't fully kicked in. So if you're having sex, keep him covered so you don't et preg. In addition you should be keeping him covered to keep from getting an STD, and since bc isn't 100%- getting preg.

Bad idea. It'll just confuse your body even more. It'll freak out wondering where all the hormones went.
Tough it out for a few more weeks, and then you'll be on your way.

I wouldn't recommend it because it would then be completely out of your system leaving vunerable for getting pregnant. I would say to try your best to get through this last pack and then moving on to your new one so there is no gap in time.

Your not going to die, but you might feel kinda funny for a while. Emotional, weight fluctuation, or nothing at all.
