First of all, as someone has already said: The military would be obliged to make sure that the next in the COC would take office and the president would be automatically taken to Bathesda for psychiatric evaluation. If the VP was in cahoots with the prez then the Speaker of the House (oops hasn't she already tried this?) would be next followed by the HR then S and the Supreme Court..etc....
I wouldn't add this to your Democrat WORRY and FEAR doctrinal chest yet. Besides it would more than likely happen under a democrat anyway. They are always for BIG GOVERNMENT and GIMME all you got Taxes.
Consider the current flow of BS out of Congress...FIGHT THE WAR BUSH, WIN THE WAR BUSH, GET OUT OF IRAQ BUSH....Well, this could all be farther along if CONGRESS or the LEFT-WING CONSPIRATORIAL MAINSTREAM MEDIA hadn't dug up a few "acts v. terrorists" My God, a fighter cannot win when his hands are tied behind his back!

I would encourage my State's legislature and Governor to declare us independent from the United States. Without the support of the States, the Federal Government is nothing - the Federalist system works as another check and balance on the Federal Government. Each state has enough autonomy to govern itself without interference from the federal government. Hopefully the Federal Government would peacefully allows us to break away, but if not then I guess it would come down to a match between the California National Guard and the Regular Army (if there were any left state-side).
If the State did not want to do it then I would try my county and then my city and if all else fails, I would probably move out of the United States.

It worked for Hitler and look what happened to him. The British did it here and look what happened to them. The military takes an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and DOMESTIC. So the military would be obliged to not let such foolishness happen.
