are cell phones really nessicary for high school? because i'm going into grade 9 this fall and i want to know if i need one? my birthday is this july so i'm either asking for a cell or an ipod. should i ask for a cell this christmas or get the cell know and ipod later?
if you are in highschool do you have a cell and is it really nessicary?

I went through all four years of high school with out a cell!! The only time I wish i would of had one was when I started driving!! Now i wish i had a IPOD insted of my cell!!! Get the Ipod now and ask for the phone later!!!! I know at my school people got their phones taken up ALL the time for having them out in class! They would keep them for 6 weeks!

You definitely need a cell phone! In the time we live in, you need a cell phone for safety. Go ahead and get a cell phone with an MP3 player, the only problem with that idea is that your parents may not want to get you a real ipod once you have the phone with the mp3 player. Get just a cell phone in July, then ask for an ipod for christmas. Who knows you may be able to get a better ipod. I did!

Well, I needed my cell phone in high school if I needed to call someone to pick me up from after school activities. It's also useful when you're hanging out with friends and you need to find each other. Neither the ipod or cell phone were allowed out in the open during school hours back in my high school, but I felt my cell phone was much more necessary outside of school hours.

i'm going to high school this fall too...and i think it is a neccessity because if you are involved in a lot of after school activities...it's hard to remember to always tell your parents to pick you up in advance...so a cell phone is really handy...i'm in 8th grade right now...and there are many times where i wished i had a cell phone...so yeah a definiate neccessity! as for the ipod...you might be able to live without that for a while. so get the cell phone first! or just ask for a music phone...so then you get like a 2 in 1 kinda thing. =D

ipod now cell phone later cos you really need it much yet and christmas is just around the corner so cell phone you can get it then still managed the house phone but ipod could entertain u more when you bored and you see friends in school get home and use the phone since ur not working only weekends and u can still christmas so i say ipod now cell phone later

I'm not in high school yet, still in middle school (6th grade) but nearly ever 1 has one! U should ask for a cell phone, I mean, u can download music on it, communicate with ur friends etc. At ur age, its probably more neccessary than an ipod. Plus u can probably buy the ipod urself!

it depends, if you go out a lot with your friends on the weekend, then maybe you should get one, so your parents can feel more secure, however, i remember in high school(which was about 3 years ago) i got a cell till my senior year, so before when i would go out, my parents would not call me, since they had nowhere to contact me. After i got it, they kept calling me if i went out. However, be careful and try not to run ur your parents bill cause I'm sure that they will pay the bill. Get the i-pod first, but like I said if you do go out a lot, maybe the cell would do.

A cell phone is more of an unnecessary luxury until you turn 16. When you get your license and start driving on your own, you DEFINITELY need a cell phone in case something happens. But until then, "texting" and "talking to your friends" all the time are not necessary. Plus, you can talk to your friends all the time on a landline (house phone).

You can have a cell phone in High School, but nowadays rules have gotten tougher....Besides who are you gonna be calling in class?...I would choose the iPod so you have something to listen to...Or maybe you can get a Phone with a MP3 player built into it, that way you have both....but the choice is up to you ....

honestly I made it through high school without one...but that was back in the early 1990s. So I am old fashioned I guess. I think unless you are driving age maybe get one.
you may also want to check with your school, some of them have banned them.
If you really want the phone and the ipod...there are ones available that do both. check cingular or motorola. not sure how good they are, but would solve both problems.
