The abuse can be physically, and mental. We have such a problem and everywhere we turn we are faced with the threat of false charges by the daughter-in-law and her mother.

Don't worry Ministry of Welfare of government of India is very soon coming out with an enactment for the protection of old people, the bill has already been introduced in the parliament & would be passed & given the shape of the Act that will help the old suffering parents & parent in laws. Till then or otherwise for any criminal offence against the parent in laws we have the provisions of the Indian Penal Code,1860, if your case is covered under any of the offences stated there you can take legal action against the daughter in law too.
