After Henry VIII died, his son was king Edward the VIth, then when HE died, the throne should have gone to Queen Mary I, which it did after 9 days.

For those 9 days, though, Mary's cousin was queen, why is she referred in the history books as "Lady"? If there should ever be a queen in her own right named Jane, would she be styled Queen Jane II??

She wasn't queen. The rightful heir, Edward's sister Mary Tudor, had the support of the populace and the nobilty and was crowned queen.

She was popularly known by the courtesy title of "Lady" because her family came from nobility. Henry 7th was her great-grandfather. She did become queen and was enthroned albeit just at the tower of London. But that was used as a palace, then.

There are reports that she sat under the 'chair of state' and signed or sealed official documents. Should the UK have another Jane become queen in her own right; that future queen would be Jane II.

We don't call Queen Victoria, Victoria the first, now do we?

She was never coronated as queen. There was a lot of controversy at the time as to whether Mary, a woman and a catholic, should inherit the throne after all the turmoil in england with regards to religion during her father's reign, so Lady Jane Grey, a protestant, was given guardianship over the throne while court and the Cof E church battled it out.

She was never formally crowned and her title of queen is very iffy. Not everyone accepts it. Therefore, if there were a Queen Jane in the future, it would be Queen Jane I
