Sometimes when I start my Jetta it sets off the panic switch for no apparent reason. This is very annoying and embarassing. Is there a solution to this problem? I've been told it's a common issue with the Jetta. I like the car, but the panic mode is driving me crazy!

are you hitting the panic button on the side of the key when tuning the car on or maybe pressure on the plastic around the panic button is setting it off. do you have a valet key or try using the key without the battery in it for the fob and if it still does it than you know its the car if not it may just be the key fob setting it off from pressure when turning it on. we have a 2003 jetta and this never happens but we have 2 new switch blade keys that the dealer gave us with the car even though it was used maybe they gave us new keys b/c of this problem? but i would try using valet key to start car or using one of the keys without the battery in to see if its the car or if you just need a new key.

how many miles does ur jetta have? there is a warranty that is called emissions warranty dealers do not talk about. its 7years or 70k miles there also could be a warranty extension that applies to your car call and ask a dealer VW , wait call two dealers in your area they will ask for your vin # its on your registration and on your dash left right corner if your the driver, look from outside by windshield. could save you sum$$$$ if its covered under warranty they need to refund your diagnosis charges. if its the oxygen sensor your diag will say bank 1 or bank 2 this is 1- front ox sensor and 2- rear sensor. vacuum will be evap leak (small or large) could just be a hose or fuel cap actually could be many things. a dealer diagnosis will tell you exactly what is bad and needs replaced.

What do you expect? It's a piece of garbage. I'm surprised it even made it past the 5 year mark. Sell this junk and get a real car- VW's are for metrosexuals, girls and little poseur drug dealers that wear gold chains.
