Obviously not Yahoo! Answers where guys can answer 6,000 questions, but never use any of that excess free time to learn about basic accreditation.

An institution can be regionally accredited (best) or nationally accredited (okay, but not as much utility), not both. National is not "more prestigious" as post above says.

Also, Intel made a policy change to require program or special accreditation, which excluded over 100 universities that previously qualified. They never made the statement attacking individual schools.

So, the correct answer is check for regional accrediation with CHEA or DOE, and if you need guidance, contact someone directly at a school.

Define "legit."

If you mean -- which ones are good and will help you get a job, then the answer is easy -- none are Legit. Employers do not respect on-line degrees.

If you mean Legit in a more legal sense, you can check to see if the schools are accredited. Here you have to be careful. Schools like University of Phoenix make a big deal out of being accredited, but they only have regional accreditation and lack the more prestigious national accreditation.

Most of these schools are For Profit Corporations that accept nearly everyone. This lack of selectivity is one of many reasons why many employers do not take these degrees seriously. Companies like Intel have refused to pay for their students to take classes at schools like the University of Phoenix because of this -- and because they feel that the courses lack rigor.

The following article gives more reasons why you should be wary of on-line degrees.

to found out 'legit' universities and colleges try visiting their websites and googling to get inside information. Some websites provide information from students who are attending a particular college: they describe college life in a way that's easy to understand and are totally truthful.

hope this helps♥
