...saying it out loud (Bee-Tee-Doubleyoo) takes longer to say than "by the way". Do you know someone who does this? Does it annoy the crap out of you? Would you tell them that they appear to be stupid?

If I knew anybody who did that, it would annoy the crap out of me. Fortunately, I live in Argentina, so nobody would have the option of saying "by the way", so they most definitely would not have the option of saying "Bee-Tee-Doubleyoo". Also, I think the letter Doubleyoo would by called Wenn or something like that. It'd be so much shorter and easier... but us humans always do complicate everything.

Thankfully, I do not know such people. There's a cell phone ad on right now where the kid speaks entirely in text-lingo and I just want to reach through the television and smack her. I can't stand it! If I ever did happen to engage someone in conversation who did this (someone I knew, not a stranger), I most certainly would attempt to belittle the heck out of them. It IS stupid!!!

I've never heard anyone say that but have you seen the commercial for some wireless phone company where the young daughter is talking in text-language to her mom? So cute!

I preferred the way Colombo would say it, "Oh, there's just one more t'ing that was bothering me, I couldn't really figure it out, I was t'inkin' about it, and... hey, is that an autographed Derek Jeter rookie card?"
