Neither. Planets (unless impacted) just stay the way they are. They aren't fusing Hydrogen in their core so, they won't explode once they begin to fuse iron and they aren't large enough to collapse in on themselves from their own gravity, so they won't implode.

If a planet (mostly solid) is impacted by a large enough meteor, then it could shatter into pieces. or a planet can be swallowed by a star growing into its red giant stage, but it will just be like a piece of charcoal...Lol.

No. Planets are generally a stable body. Stars are dynamic and changing over their lifespan, consuming themselves. Planets, while they can change, are not going to implode or explode. External forces may destroy them, say a large meteor or something.

They don't do anything...

How they are destroyed is by their own planet's star. When the star turns into a red giant, and sucks the planet in. Or when the star goes supernova and destroys the planet.

But planets themselves will not die. The core may burn out and harden becoming a chunk of matter floating around, but nothing interesting happens.

It's unlikely, although a planet could be ripped apart by the gravitational forces of a nearby star/planet.

No, only first rate stars go super-nova. At the end of a first-rate star's life it collapses onto itself and explodes.

Depends - are we talking destruction by Death Star, or Galactus?
