I always make the effort to honour my plans unless I was extremely ill. (which is thankfully rare for me) Making the effort in life, I think, makes you feel better about yourself and will show the hostess you value them highly enough to care about their party. I would always hope people could make the effort if it was my party.
Why don't you really go for all out glam with a sexy look which will leave the annoying couple speechless. Got a great cleavage? Then flaunt it with sparkly powder, fabulous hair? Then add some diamonte clips. Put on some killer heels and flaunt shapely pins. Think "sexy" all night, I guarantee it will perk you up and leave a few people wondering why.........
ok just realised you're a guy, sorry, lol. Ok, plan 2. how about a bit of bling on your fingers/in your ears and a crisp but ever so slightly tight shirt so the laydeez will catch the odd nipple outline.....and maybe a crazy cocktail in your hand as a conversation starter.
If you're married, Plan 3, just go and suffer it and at least ogle the hostess privately behind some dark glasses.....

Take a nap. I have much more energy after a 20-30 min. nap. Try it. As for the annoying couple, come up with some wierd scenario in your head about them then trip out on that, or count how may times you were able to change the subject in your conversations with them.

Just be plain sincere. Tell the hostess you wont be able to attend the party because you need rest and peace. Or simply stay home and dont say anything . You are a free person.

Well either make an excuse of you are too tired and don't go, or appear and just make an excuse after an hour or so that you have to leave.
If you are too tired then you will not enjoy it and this can always rub off on others there.

Well if you have time you could take a nap. If not, then you may decide not to go or try drinking some coffee or soda. The caffeine will keep you awake.

I always find that playing upbeat music wakes me up enough to go out. Also, drink soda with caffenine like the others suggested.
