I like both. I often go to watch my friends/people I know play and usually have a really good time. On the other hand, if one of my favorite bands was playing, I'd happily shell out $50 for it.

I get a big concert for $8. So that is close enough. The town I live in has big name bands in for really cheap every summer. I am going to be seeing George Thorogood, Loverboy, Smashmouth and others for just $8 early purchase price. But if the garage band was good I believe in supporting your friends when they are starting out. Besides often times you have a better time with the local bands.

A garage band anytime. I have done this a few times and I love it. Heck, $5? I buy the beer for everyone.

Would definitely rather see a band I knew than anyone huge. I hate crowds. I like small, dimly lit venues where I can listen without all the ruckus.

I would support my friends, the garage band.
I like intermediate options like Country Fest, local names and big names. Win, Win.

depends on who is better, just because they are friends doesn't mean that my ears will tolerate bad music....
all things being equal...I'd take the garage band...
